Bio

Dr. Luis Braga received his medical and residency training in Surgery and completed a Masters and Doctoral degree in Health Sciences at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil. After a 1-year Pediatric Urology fellowship in Rouen and Lyon (France) and a 3-year Clinical and Research Pediatric Urology fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Dr. Braga joined McMaster University’s Department of Surgery under the Division of Pediatric Urology in 2008. He finished his Masters in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University in 2010 and is currently the Research Director of the Urology Residency Program and the ​Director of the McMaster Pediatric Surgery Research ​Collaborative. Besides ​he is a Professor in the Department of Surgery and holds cross Appointments in the Departments of Health Research Methods, Evidence, and Impact ( HEI), and Pediatrics. In addition, he has a very busy clinical practice as a pediatric urologist at the McMaster Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Braga is an editor for the Journal of Pediatric Urology, serves as a reviewer for 10 different Journals and has published more than 150 articles and book chapters. He is currently the Principal Investigator of 4 RCTs. Dr. Braga led an international task force with the aim to standardize quality of reporting on hypospadias repair based on the STROBE statement, as well as to establish patient important outcomes and currently continues this work on the board of the  Hypospadias International Society (HIS).

Since his arrival at McMaster University, Dr. Braga has received approximately $520,000 from many organizations including PSI, CIHR, CUA and MSA for his various studies.
