Postgraduate Training Program

Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery is a five-year program. During the first two years, trainees receive surgical foundations training to provide a solid background in the principles of surgery related to Otolaryngology. Residents are expected to pass the Surgical Foundations examination of the Royal College of Surgeons after they have completed the first two years of the program. Lectures, journal clubs, rounds and temporal bone lab dissection are attended in the final three years of training. Written and Oral examinations are taken annually by junior residents and twice a year by senior residents to provide feedback. Rotations are scheduled by academic block: one block is equivalent to four weeks.
