Vertigo (Dizzy) Clinic

The McMaster University Otolaryngology Vertigo (Dizzy) Clinic is located at the St Joseph’s Hospital site in the Mary Grace Wing on the 8th floor.  The facility consists of state of the art equipment in neurotology testing including videonystagmography (VNG), electronystagmography (ENG), rotational chair and electrocochleography (ECoG).  It provides the only rotational chair testing in the region.  A complete range of audiology services is also available.

The clinic includes a multidisciplinary team of specialists.  Vestibular testing is performed by two of our highly trained audiologists.  Clinicians include the staff neurotologist, and otolaryngology residents.  A wide spectrum of peripheral and central vestibular disorders is evaluated.  The dizzy clinic itself occurs on Wednesdays.  Initial consultation is usually performed by an otolaryngology resident.  The case is then reviewed with the staff consultant including history, detailed neurotological examination, relevant vestibular testing and imaging.  A diagnosis is then agreed upon and a medical and surgical treatment plan is generated and presented to the patient. Residents are encouraged to participate in these clinics as it provides them with good exposure to a variety of vestibular pathologies and strengthens their interpretation of vestibular testing.
