Living History

The Department of Surgery is proud to have a number of retired Surgical Educators, our founding fathers, living in the city.

These surgeons have not only had an impact on the practice of surgery in Hamilton over the years but have also had a profound effect on the training of residents and medical students.

Having dedicated so much of their time and efforts to caring for patients and to education, they deserve to be recognized, honored and remembered by our department.

This Living History initiative serves a two-fold purpose:

  • To celebrate the lives of our past surgical educators, and keep their memories alive in our programs.
  • To capture memories, insights, observations and wisdom from our retired surgeons who have seen many changes in the healthcare industry in general and surgery in particular.

Watch this space for living histories as they become available.

Suggestions, materials and/or nominations are welcome. Please contact Julia Smerilli, Project Coordinator: smerilj@mcmaster.ca
