Breakfast "breakthroughs" in spine research
Drs Brian Drew (Associate Professor, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery), Jason Busse (Associate Professor, Department of Anesthesia), and Jean-Eric Tarride (Associate Professor, PATH research Institute) Connected as part of the Department of Surgery's Breakfast Breakthrough Initiative--bringing together Academics and Clinicians to forge new collaborations and re-invigorate old ones!
Dr. Bhandari said "Today's spirited discussion was exactly the intent of the breakfast meetings. Today, new bridges were built and some old ones renewed"
"The opportunities to expand our spine research program with a focus on patient focused outcomes and health economics is critical--Today was another great example of the real wealth of talent at McMaster-We have lots of new ideas and plans to work together" said Dr. Drew
Dr. Busse remarked, " The opportunities in Spine are tremendous. Identifying therapies in spine that work and are cost-effective are needed. Our strengths in the design and execution of high quality studies with patient-important outcomes puts McMaster in a unique position to lead nationally. Looking forward to a multi-disciplinary program of spine research including the use of health economics, large databases from CIHI and ICES, and the eventual design of pragmatic trials. "
"There is simply no question that costs are major drivers of health care utilization. Our expertise provides an excellent opportunity to collaborate in this important initiative. We look to supporting and leveraging our experience to create a world class program in spine research" added Dr. Tarride
